These would be completely useless in GW chapters. Not to mention that they would need to re-do previous chapters for new features...
Not needed gameplay wise anyway...
This is a game, not an alternate life.. Who cares about jumping in a car game?

There are a few thing I whould like to be able to do in the game.
1. To have walking and running separated. I dont wanna run like a idiot all the time.
2. To have different dances and not just one
3. To be able to climb trees and to be able to sneak past monsters so they dont notice me
4. To be able to swim so I dont have to walk around the water all the time(That whould save a lot of time)
5. To be able to ride horses outside outposts(They whould give speed boost, take dmg, cost a lot but still be fun)
A lot of games have such things possible. Why whouldnt GW have it.

Swimming which I think could be done on the GW Engine
I dont know since im not a game developer but this could be in there in my opinion...
Swimming maybe in future chapters where you run into the water keeping at a straight angle but a new animation of floating under water also maybe you could need a special helmet or something to breathe underwater and you could fight underwater pretty easy too if this couldnt be in there then sorry but I could picture it and it would be a really cool mission

But you play games to have fun and escape the real world for the time that you play. Immersing yourself is a key role in most role-playing games. of course, your entitled to your opinion, but there are people who play to have fun and actually immerse themselves in the game world.
I for one, cannot see this happening though. The horses or something equally like that could be used for sure, and maybe real-time boat rides and the such? Guild Wars though, I just can't see swimming animations, not to mention jumping and climbing possible. It's mostly the way the engine was built, and I'm sure it could be implemented with a few new animations, but it wouldn't fit in GW style.
Just my opinion.

Late Post
This thread hasn't seen much activity in the past few months. The only reason I'm posting to it is because of the announcement of Guild Wars II which has made many of these dead threads relevant again.
I do know Arena Net intends to add some enhancements to movement. What those enhancements are specifically, I don't know. On the list of things players want to see added or changed in the game, swimming, climbing, jumping, etc. seems pretty low. Base on what I've read (and I've read the entire thread) no one had any constructive input aside from snapping at each other and suggesting people play other games.
News flash: This is a guild wars forum designed to offer the developers insight into new ideas about Guild Wars based on player feedback. If people want to champion the merits of other PC games, log onto their respective sites and do so. Doing it here doesn't help NCSoft much now does it?
Personally, I think the only thing I might enjoy is the ability to fall and die. When in Maguuma, one must traverse over those gigantic root bridges. I always thought it would be more challenging if there was a risk of falling. Better yet, having the abiliting to use whirlwind or gale and knock a troll off would be fun.
Just musing. I've grown accostomed to movement in the game. Which is to say any enhancements will probably breathe some new life into gameplay. I look forward to experiencing what the developers ultimately end up with.

... Did that REALLY justify necroing this thread?
Though oddly enough... it did conjure to mind images of spammers in Lion's Arch yelling out "LF SWIMA 2 EMBER LIT CAMP!!!!1!" ... ^_^

I wish they would add these extra movement abilities. At the moment, unless effects and things like that will be effected by some sot of physics or timing engine, these things will not actually effect game play.
Jumping: The only thing this would solve is some movement issues like not being able to jump over a small, waist high fence as well as some neat dungeons. Other than that it has no real skilled play involve without a proper physic engine (i.e. throwing a player off a cliff, jumping over an attack). This may, however, be implemented into some interesting PvP where position is essential.
Swimming: Again, its an exploration thing, nothing really added to gameplay without a proper physics engine. PvP could make use for this where you storm a base and a passage to the inside could be hidden in a watery catacomb or something.
Climbing: Exploration only. This would make me want to see whats on the other side of the endless valleys and steep hills that plague this game. Its understandable though, this game is based on instances. PvP has a number of uses for this, like climbing over a wall to reach the inside of some base.

It would somewhat be nice but this would be extremely low (almost at the bottom) of my list of things I'd like to see.

Has anyone concidered the simple fact....
...we dont need to jump, swim or climb?
If that was something we needed, desperately to complete the game, wouldnt Anet have included it? But they didnt, because we dont.
You dont need to swim, jump or climb to complete quests or missions, or explore.
So why add it?
If in GW2 you do NEED it, then add it. If not, then dont.

I agree that the dynamics of the GW1 system makes jumping, swimming and climbing absolutely and completely irrelevant.
Jumping, swimming and climbing for GW2, however, have all been confirmed.

Ah, but I got you to respond now didn't I? Your comment, by the way, was very amusing.

WEll it really is a moot point. IN GW2 You'll be able to at least jump and swim. There was also mention of climbing. So really the gaol in GW right now for me is to save up 15k armo and title to put in the hall of monuments for GW2. and of course smash face in PvP
